Embiid Ruled Out for Season
The season from hell continues for the Sixers.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania on Thursday, Joel Embiid went directly to ownership on the condition of his knee and ultimately, the Sixers decided to shut the star center down for the reminder of the 2025 season.
On Saturday, Kevin Smith reported that the Sixers could petition for a ‘medical retirement’ should Embiid be unfit to play a year from now.
Of course, shutting down Embiid isn’t necessarily the most alarming thing here, at least to me. The team isn’t going anywhere this season so letting him get the procedure now isn’t the worse thing in the world. The fact, however, that the player had to go to Josh Harris and co. and broach the subject appears to lack tact from higher-ups in the organization.
Likewise, it’s long past time for the Sixers to start exploring what life will look like without Embiid. Whether that means he returns eventually and they explore options to move him along or he simply has to retire, Philly should operate as if he won’t be playing for them.
It’s an unfortunate, albeit harsh reality for the Sixers and the former MVP.
Flyers Take Down Jets in a Shootout
The Flyers extended a three-game win streak against Winnipeg on Saturday night in a 2-1 shootout victory. Matvei Michkov scored the game-winning goal, while defensemen Jamie Drysdale scored the other goal. Philly will return home this week to take on Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee and the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.

Phillies Split Sunday Matinee with Orioles, Blue Jays
The Phillies walked off the Orioles in Clearwater, winning 5-4. They lost to the Blue Jays in Dunedin 4-5. Alec Bohm homered twice in the Phils home win, while Gabriel Rincones, Jr. continued his white hot spring, cracking his third homer of spring training against Toronto.
The Phillies will return to action this Tuesday, playing host to the New York Yankees in Clearwater.
