Sixers Beat Celtics in Game 7
At long last, they have done it!
On Saturday night, in perhaps his best game in a Sixer uniform, Joel Embiid and the Sixers picked up a 109-100 victory in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. The big fella finished his night with 34 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in the win, while Tyrese Maxey added 30 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists of his own. Additionally, VJ Edgecombe posted 23 points and teammate Paul George had 13 in a contest Philly won’t soon forget.
Philadelphia becomes the 14th team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 deficit to win a best-of-7 series as well. VJ Edgecombe scored
This is the first time the Sixers beat Boston in the playoffs since 1982, snapping a streak of six consecutive series losses. One deck for Philly will be the New York Knicks, the same team that knocked the Sixers out of its last trip to the playoffs two years ago. That series will begin Monday.
Hurricanes Shutout Flyers 3-0 in Game 1 of East Semifinals
The Flyers opened their second round matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday in a 3-0 loss. Logan Stankoven scored twice for the Canes, while goaltender Frederik Andersen made 19 saves for his second shutout of the playoffs. The Flyers, on the other hand, got 20 stops from goaltender Dan Vladar, but couldn’t generate any offense. Carolina stymied Philadelphia and have yet to trail at any point in the playoffs.
Game 2 of the series is Monday night in Raleigh with Philly looking to even up the series. For more on this series, click here.
Phillies Keep Rolling, Defeat Marlins 7-2
The Don Mattingly era continues to roll. On Sunday, the Phillies exploded for a six-run first inning, thanks to Bryson Stott’s three-run home run. Rookie Justin Crawford had a two-out RBI single in the third inning to make it 7-0, while Kyle Schwarber and Brandon Marsh each had two of the Philadelphia’s 11 hits in the win.
On Monday, the Phillies will have Aaron Nola face-off with Marlins RHP Janson Junk. Philadelphia is looking to take three of four in the series.
Union Draw with Nashville, Searching for First Home Win
Still searching for their first at home this season, the Union played host to Nashville SC on Saturday night in a 0-0 draw. In the first half, Philadelphia outshot Nashville 5-1, but couldn’t find a way onto the scoresheet. The nightmarish campaign continues for the boys in blue, who are sitting in last place in the East with just six standings points.
The Union will head to New England to take on the Revolution on Saturday, May 9th, hoping for a better result. The match is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. and will broadcast on Apple TV.
