Ramos Roundup Part 126: Reconstructive Surgery

The Ramos roundup is a weekly sports column highlighting all the news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Phillies Go Cold in Cali Finale

The Phillies bookended a trip through San Diego and Los Angeles with a 9-1 loss to the Dodgers on Sunday. The Phillies offense again struggled mightily over the six game road-trip, hitting a measly .169 over that span. In fact, according to John Stolnis, Philly’s .224 average as a team through their first 59 games is the lowest batting average through their first 59 games of a season in franchise history. Despite this, the Phils still managed to go 4-2 on the road-trip, however, and that’s good news considering they are still trying to stay above .500 right now.

In other and more positive Phillies news, is what we saw from LHP Cristopher Sánchez this past week. On Wednesday in a 3-0 win against the Padres, Sánchez snapped the Phillies scoreless-innings streak record, one that stood for 115 years. Hall of Famer Grover Alexander set the record in 41 innings in 1911, but now the record belongs to Sánchez at 44 2/3 consecutive innings and counting.

You don’t see something like that everyday.

AJ Brown Day?

Could Monday be the day that the Eagles trade AJ Brown? According to the rumor mill, June 1st is supposed to be that day. Perhaps in preparation for this, Brown has deactivated his X account amid rumors that his trade to the Patriots is set to be made official this week.

If this is it with Brown in Philly, it’s been a fun ride. Brown was a prime focus on an offense that appeared in two Super Bowls and of course, a championship winner in February of 2025. In four seasons in Philadelphia, Brown appeared in 62 games with the birds, catching 339 passes for over 5,000 yards.

Sixers Hire Mike Gansey

The Sixers kicked off their front office restructuring with the hire of former Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager Mike Gansey on Friday as the new president of basketball operations. Gansey is finishing up a tenure with the Cavs that spans 15 years with the organization, where he won the D League’s Basketball Executive of the Year in 2017 for his work with the Canton Charge, Cleveland’s D League affiliate.

It’ll be interesting to see how Gansey plans to proceed. Moreover, who the organizations plans to put in the GM role as well.

Union Fire Bradley Carnell, Name Jon Scheer Sporting Director

The Union dropped some explosive news on Wednesday, announcing that they have parted ways with head coach Bradley Carnell after a season and a half at the helm. Additionally, the club also announced that Jon Scheer has been named Sporting Director.

Carnell is being replaced by Union II Head Coach Ryan Richter. Richter, who played professionally for seven years, is a former first round selection of Philadelphia’s and has coached in a variety of roles with the club since 2018.

Scheer, on the other hand, is set to oversee all sporting operations for the club. Things like including player recruitment, roster management and scouting all will fall under his umbrella. Like Richter, Scheer has been with the club since 2018.

After winning the Supporters Shield last season, the Union’s fall from grace has come swift this season. The boys in blue are 1-10-4 this season, mustering up just seven standings points this year. For a closer look at the Union’s plan moving forward in the second half of the season, click here.
