Castellanos Walks Off Game 2, Phillies Level Series
After wasting Zach Wheeler’s excellence in Game 1, the Phillies bounced back in a must win game 2 on Sunday afternoon to even the NLDS at one game apiece. The Phils dug themselves an early 3-0 hole in this game, but Bryce Harper’s two-run homer and Castellanos’ solo bomb in a three-pitch span off Luis Severino reinvigorated Philly and evaporated the deficit with a whole lot of drama sprinkled in.
It was the kind of gut-wrenching, topsy-turvy game that puts you through every emotion possible. You live for moments like this as a fan, of course with the euphoric satisfaction of your team coming out of it the winning side.
Now, we head to the big apple for a pivotal Game 3.
Aaron Nola and Sean Manaea will take the ball as starters for their respective clubs.
Union Pushed to Playoff Brink After Losses to Orlando, Columbus
With a playoff spot hanging in the balance, the Union traveled to Columbus to take on the Crew on Saturday night, falling 3-2. In the opening minutes of the first half, Columbus forward Cucho Hernandez scored for an early Crew lead. Then, Nate Harriel scored in the 25th minute to level the match at 1-1, giving the young defender two goals in his last three matches. Columbus defender Mohamed Farsi scored in the final minutes of the first half to break the tie and then, of course, in the 76th minute, Cucho scored again for his brace. Jack McGlynn also scored in the loss.
The Union return home to Subaru Park to play FC Cincinnati on MLS Decision Day on Saturday, October 19th. With it, everything comes down to the final two Wild Card spots in the East Conference.
A win is mandatory.
Flyers Begin Season This Friday
Hockey days are here again. The Flyers return to regular season play this Friday when they open a four game road trip in Vancouver. Philly will have a notably younger squad this year, as Matvei Michkov and 2024 first round pick Jett Luchanko will each make contributions to the club this season.
Luchanko making the team out of training camp was a pleasant surprise, he will be the youngest Flyer in franchise history at 18 years old (1 month, 20 days). Philly will have nine games before they must decide if Luchanko will burn a year off his entry level contract and remain with the Flyers for the entire 2024-2025 season or head back to his junior club. We’ll see if he can carry over the play from his solid training camp into the regular season.
