Ramos Roundup Part 128: How’s that for Elite?

The Ramos roundup is a weekly sports column highlighting all the news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Harper Hits for Cycle, Schwarber Swats Three Homers

Highlighted by a raucous 15-3 win on Saturday, the Phillies picked up a 2-of-3 series win over the Mets this weekend. In the series middle game Bryce Harper hit his first career cycle in the rout and just the 11th in Phillies franchise history. The last Phillie to hit for the cycle was Weston Wilson in August of 2024.

Kyle Schwarber, meanwhile, continued to mash the ball, launching three home runs in that game as well. According to OptaStats, the
Phillies are the second team in MLB history to have a player hit for the cycle and a player hit 3 homers in the same game. The last time a feat like this was achieved was in June of 1932, when Tony Lazzeri hit for the cycle and Lou Gehrig belted four homers for the Yankees.

Flyers Swap Goalies and defensemen in Trade with Leafs

On Tuesday, the Flyers announced they have acquired goaltender Joseph Woll and defenseman Simon Benoit from the Toronto Maple Leafs, in exchange for goaltender Samuel Ersson, defenseman Emil Andrae, and Philadelphia’s third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

The move appears to be a good swap for Philadelphia, as adding another goaltender they can count on to spell Dan Vladar on occasion was one of things on the club’s radar this summer. Other than a few stretches here and there and a strong post Olympic break surge this season, Ersson had quite a few moments were he struggled for the Flyers. Andrae, on the other hand, had bouts of strong play but ultimately couldn’t stay in the lineup due to gaffes in his own zone and with the puck.

This should be the first of a few new additions the Flyers make this summer. Stay tuned for that right here at Phiredup Sports as we’ll be analyzing the draft and free agency as the summer rolls along.
