Ramos Roundup Part 127: Best of Both Worlds

The Ramos roundup is a weekly sports column highlighting all the news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Eagles Trade WR AJ Brown to New England

The Eagles finally completed their long rumored trade of AJ Brown to the Patriots. Philadelphia received a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick, according to the organization. Last week, we spoke about the inevitability that Brown would no longer be with the Eagles and that came to fruition last Monday.

Considering the star receiver’s open desire to play elsewhere, the Eagles made out pretty well here on the return. General Manager Howie Roseman did a great job ensuring a 1st round pick in the return. Though there was speculation for some time that the three-time pro bowler would be traded, the Eagles were also clearly preparing for life without him. Drafting Makai Lemon and acquiring Dontayvion Wicks appeared to signal that. Moreover, Devonta Smith is now prime for a big season as the birds’ number one receiver on the depth chart.

Jameer Nelson Now Second in Command

On Sunday, NBA insider Shams Charania broke news that Philadelphia is promoting Jameer Nelson to executive vice president of basketball operations. The position comes with great responsibility for the former St. Joe Hawk, as he is now holds the number two spot behind the recently hired Mike Gansey.

Nelson has been with the Sixers in a front office capacity since 2020. He was a Sixers scout and Delaware Blue Coats assistant GM that year before he was later promoted to Delaware’s GM. Most recently he stepped up to Sixers assistant general manager in May of 2025.

Marsh Keeps Mashing, Phillies Sink Sox 9-5

The Phillies earned a series victory over the White Sox on Sunday by a score of 9-5 in the series clincher. Brandon Marsh continues to be white hot for the Phillies this summer, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs and a walk on Sunday. He also homered in the game and now has done so for three straight games.

The Phillies starting pitching however, did post a weekend to forget after being a strength for the club the weeks prior. Jesús Luzardo, Aaron Nola and Andrew Painter combined for a 9.60 ERA in the three game set so hopefully they’ll be better their next time out.

The Phils get back after on Monday, when they open a series with the Blue Jays in Toronto.
