Ramos Roundup Part 63: Birds of a Feather

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Eagles Soar Past Ravens 24-19

Another week. another terrific 100-yard performance from Saquon Barkley and the Eagles on Sunday. Barkley is now over 1,500 rushing yards this season and should be heavily considered for League MVP. Philly now have won 8 straight games after being down 9-0 after the first quarter. The Birds battled back and out-scored Baltimore 24-10 the last 3 quarters.

Over the course of this winning streak, Philly has dominated the line of the scrimmage on both sides of the football as the games have wore on. The Eagles, particularly in the fourth quarter on offense, have been outstanding; entered the game averaging 8.9 points per game in the fourth quarter, the Eagles are only second to the the Colts in the NFL, with a league-best +49 in fourth-quarter point differential.

Michkov, Flyers Top Blues in Overtime 3-2

A day after their big black Friday win over the Rangers, the Flyers picked up another big win in St. Louis. Rookie Matvei Michkov potted the game-wining goal, while Travis Konecny picked up the assist on one of the better individual efforts you’ll see. Owen Tippett and Tyson Foerster scored in the contest as well.

In the last 12 games, the orange and black has gone to overtime eight times, tallying a 6-2 record in that span. So we can call this group the cardiac kids of late. We’d also be remiss not to mention that the Flyers have received much better goaltending of late from Ivan Fedotov and Aleksei Kolosov with Sam Ersson on the mend.

The Flyers will return to action this Thursday, when they play host to the Florida Panthers.

Maxey’s 28 Powers Sixers Past Pistons 111-96

Over on the hardwood, the Sixers also picked up a win on Saturday in Detroit against the Pistons. Tyrese Maxey led the way in the scoring column with 28 points, while Both KJ Martin and Ricky Council IV added 19 and 17 points respectively, off the Sixers’ bench.

Additionally, the game also marked the return of Paul George from a left knee bone bruise. He missed the last three games, but posted 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The Sixers return to action on Tuesday, when they head to Charlotte to take on LaMelo Ball and the Hornets.

Union Make Roster Decisions

On Tuesday, the Union announced several roster transactions. The boys in blue will pick up the contract option for Isaiah LeFlore, while the option was automatically exercised for Mikael Uhre, joining 22 players whose contracts were already guaranteed for next season.

The club is currently negotiating with Alejandro Bedoya, Jack Elliott, and Brandan Craig. It was somewhat surprising to see Elliott’s option get declined, as he’s been a longtime member of the club, but times are changing for the Union. Sporting Director Ernest Tanner recently expressed that Elliott is looking for a larger role with the team, which is more than the club feels comfortable with at this time.

We’ll keep an eye on this over the next few weeks.
