The Sixers were defeated by the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, but that paled in comparison to what happened off the court. If you haven’t already heard, Joel Embiid recently had a very public feud with Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Marcus Hayes this week regarding a piece that Hayes wrote. Embiid took exception to Hayes’ mention of his son and late brother. Then, the confrontation happened after the game Saturday.

Journalistically, Hayes is well within his right to critique the Sixers’ star on his lack of availability. The player is a public figure and a lot of this type of reporting comes with the territory. However, Hayes took this a bridge too far when he decided to namedrop Embiid’s son and brother. Two people which have no real way to defend themselves, for what it’s worth.

In journalism, there’s something to be said about always sticking to that ethic code; where truth and accuracy is paramount, but to also broach difficult topics with tact. Especially in this day and age when information travels lightning fast.

As a profession, we need to be much better here. Let’s do better.

After back to back wins this past week, the Flyers came back down to reality over the weekend. With goals from Mathew Poitras, Justin Brazeau and Brad Marchand, the Bruins pitched the shutout against the Flyers Saturday. For Philly, injury was added to insult, as the orange and black lost starting goaltender to Sam Ersson in the defeat as well. According to reports, Ersson is expected to be out for “about a week” with a lower-body injury.

In the meantime, the Flyers will roll with unknown rookie Aleksei Kolosov and the struggling Ivan Fedotov in goal.

Eagles Edge Jaguars 28-23

Thanks to linebacker Nakobe Dean intercepting Trevor Lawrence in the end zone with 1:38 remaining in the game, the Eagles stayed in the win column on Sunday with their win over Jacksonville. Saquon Barkley continued his stellar play this season, rushing for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also leaped over a Jaguars’ defender in one of the most impressive athletic feats you’d see on a football field. You can see that play above.

Despite a strong first half of football with a comfortable lead intact, Nick Sirianni continues to make questionable choices in fourth down and two point conversion decision situations and it almost cost his team. The head coach will need be much better in the second half of the season if the Eagles are to go deep into the playoffs this season.

Next up, the Eagles will head to Dallas to take on the Cowboys.
