Trent Holden Passes Away at 25
Incredibly sad news came down regarding the Union’s goalkeeper prospect Holden Trent. Trent, 25, passed away this weekend and our thoughts are with his family, friends and the entire Philadelphia Union organization. Trent is a 2023 MLS SuperDraft pick and a former star keeper at High Point University. This season, he did not appear for the first team but made six appearances for Philadelphia Union II.
Perhaps the more heart-breaking news is that Trent was set to marry his fiancée Brianna in December of 2025. Gone far, far too soon with his whole life and career ahead of him, it’s always unthinkable to lose someone so young.
Rest in peace, Holden.
Eagles Romp Bengals 37-17
The Eagles continued to roll on Sunday with their rout of the Cincinnati Bengals. Now 5-2 on the season, the Birds picked up 397 yards of total offense and the defense forced an interception and a fumble in the win. Quarterback Jalen Hurts turned in an efficient afternoon, going 16-of-20 for 236 yards and a touchdown, while Saquon Barkely added another 100-yard day on the ground. Devonta Smith also had himself a big day, catching six passes for 86 yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles will look to keep the good times rolling when they return home next weekend, as they play host to the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars.
Maxey Drops 40 on Pacers in Sixers Win
Behind Tyrese Maxey’s excellence, the Sixers picked up their first win of the season in Indiana. According to Sixers Stats, Maxey picked up 14 of Philly’s 27 points in the third quarter, while the team outscored the Pacers 27-20 in the third frame. The 40 piece was Maxey’s sixth 40-point game of his career.
It was a nice sight to see for the Sixers without Joel Embiid and Paul George. The Sixers return home on Wednesday, as they play host to the Detroit Pistons.
Flyers Win One, Lose One in Weekend Slate
On Saturday, the Flyers exploded for seven goals in a wild, back and fourth affair with the Minnesota Wild at Wells Fargo Center. Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny each tallied five points in the 7-5 win. According to NHL PR, Couturier and Konecny became the first Flyers teammates to record five or more points in the same regular-season game since R.J. Umberger (3-2—5) and Joffrey Lupul (3-3—6) did it back in December of 2007. Rookie sensation Matvei Michkov added a goal and an assist in the win as well.
On Sunday, however, the Flyers wouldn’t be as fortunate. In Alexei Kolosov‘s NHL debut, the Flyers would fall to the Montreal Canadiens 4-3. The score wasn’t a proper indication of how thoroughly outplayed Philly was in this game. The Flyers will look for some more consistency, as they head to Boston to take on the Bruins this Tuesday.
