The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Phillies Add Another All Star, Matching an MLB Most

Last week, the Phillies announced they were sending a team-record seven players to the MLB All Star game in Arlington this year. So, what’s one more?

According to Matt Gelb, Cristopher Sanchez is now named to the All-Star Game as a replacement for the NL team, replacing the Braves’ Chris Sale. The Fightins will have five All-Star pitchers โ€” Zach Wheeler, Ranger Suรกrez, Matt Strahm, Jeff Hoffman, and now Sanchez which makes new MLB record.

Sanchez has appeared in 18 games this season for Philly and pitched 103 innings pitched, posting a 2.96 ERA over that span.

In other club news, the Phils were walloped on Sunday by the A’s 18-3. However, Philly still remains the best team in baseball with a record of 62-34 heading into the Mid Summer Classic on Tuesday.

Kyle Lowry Returns to Sixers on One Year Pact

The Sixers remained busy this past week, as the team has come to terms with veteran guard Kyle Lowry on a one-year deal. Despite no longer being the player he was in his Toronto Raptors days, Lowry will be bring some needed passing ability to Philly this season. The Sixers won’t have a lack of finishers in Embiid, Maxey and the recently signed Paul George, but will need a handful of players that can distribute the basketball too.

Union Remain in Free Fall Mode, Lose Again to Toronto FC

Tai Baribo tallied the lone Philly goal, as the Union continue to struggle on the pitch with this past Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Toronto. The loss comes just before the Leagues Cup is set to begin. The boys in blue will play host to the New England Revolution on Wednesday and ironically enough, is the last club Philly has beaten. One would have to go back to May 18th to find the last Union win. A 3-0 clean sheet at New England with a brace from Daniel Gazdag and a goal from Julian Carranza.

Much has changed since then.
