Ramos Roundup Part 21: No One Wants to See Us Win

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Flyers Crush Avalanche 5-2; Do the Flyers Deserve More Respect?

Travis Konecny scored twice for the Flyers, who won their fourth straight game with a win against the Avalanche on Saturday. Travis Sanheim picked up a goal and an assist as well, while Carter Hart stopped 36 shots.

The Flyers, who are an impressive 15-10-2 through mid-December, have surprised many this season. Are the orange and black overachieving? Perhaps, but their underlining numbers are strong this season. There will continually be debate amongst the fanbase about whether or not this current stretch of play is good for the long-term health of the franchise, but often, an underrated part of a rebuild is the internal improvement of the group. Add in players like Bobby Brink and Tyson Foerster, a healthy Sean Couturier and a slew of others and here we are.

Sixers Pick up Two Wins, but Get Scare with Embiid

The Sixers cruised to two victories this week over Washington and Atlanta, but didn’t come away unscathed unfortunately. Despite posting a dominant 38-14-3-4 stat line, Joel Embiid landed awkwardly on his knee and came up limping. After an off-day for the Sixers on Saturday, Embiid did return to practice on Sunday. The reigning MVP will be questionable for Monday’s game.

Phillies Off-Season Update

Remember the bit from Seinfeld when George and Jerry pitch their show about Nothing? That’s been a good summation of the Phillies off-season so far.

Recently, President of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski told Todd Zolecki that the Phillies will be looking for more development from the club’s younger players this coming season rather than some bigger outside additions. Likely, Dombrowski is expecting players Johan Rojas, Christopher Sanchez and Orion Kerkering to take another step next spring. Additionally, one would imagine that also includes outfielder Brandon Marsh, Bryson Stott and Alec Bohm as well.

Eagles Trounced for Second Straight Week

Dak Prescott threw for 271 yards and two touchdowns in route to the Cowboys 33-13 win against the Eagles. The game was a mess for the birds on both sides of the ball, which now is cause for concern. Last week, the Eagles were beaten handily by the Niners and this week, didn’t fare much better. Jalen Hurts, Devonta Smith and AJ Brown all fumbled in the game, a rarity to see three explosive playmakers turn the ball over in one game. Smith and Brown also had several drops in the contest too.

Philadelphia scored more points on defense than on offense, thanks to a scoop and score touchdown from Jalen Carter. This same defense allowed 394 yards and 33 points. Should we be concerned? It feels like we should be.
