Ramos Roundup Part 14: Desert Dawgs

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Phillies Pull Within One Win of Second Consecutive World Series Berth

In game 5, Zach Wheeler was brilliant for the Phils, striking out eight Diamondback hitters over seven innings pitched in the win. Bryce Harper (1HR), Kyle Schwarber (1HR), and Bryson Stott all registered multi-hit nights, while JT Realmuto homered in the game as well.

Aaron Nola takes the ball on Monday night with a chance for the Phils to close out the series. Imagine the Bank will be rocking as usual.

As we’ve said here, Phils in 6.

Flyers Hang Tough in Loss to Dallas; Pick up a Point in Overtime

The Flyers put up a game effort in their loss against the Stars, potting three shorthanded goals in the overtime loss. Travis Konecny became the seventh player in Flyers history to score multiple shorthanded goals in the same game and the first since Simon Gagne (2 on Nov. 13, 2008, at PIT), according to NHL stats. It was probably as well played of a loss as a team could play, as the Flyers spent large chunks of the game outworking the Stars.

Philly is now 3-1-1 to start the new season.

Union Drop Matchup with New England, 2-1 on Saturday

Julian Carranza picked up the loan Union goal in their loss Saturday night. Andre Blake made three saves for Philadelphia. Jacob Jackson had two saves for New England. Later, the Union and the Revolution will square off in the MLS playoffs on a date to be determined.

Sixers Set to Open their Season on Thursday

The 76ers will tip off their 2023-24 campaign on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 pm on TNT. Philly will return home for their opener on Sunday, when they host Scott Henderson and the new look Portland Trail Blazers.

Eagles Smother Dolphins in 31-17 Win

Powered by another strong AJ Brown performance, the Eagles rolled in what was perhaps their most complete effort of this season. Brown really buoyed Philadelphia, as his 10 catches went for a gaudy 13.7 yards per catch in the win. The offensive line also did a solid job in the win, allowing De’Andre Swift to find lanes to run.

On the defensive side of the football, it was a joint effort to slow down the explosive Tyreek Hill, who despite finding the endzone, was mostly held in check.

Tyrell Edmonds made eight tackles, while Darius Slay came up with a critical interception late in the game.
Next up, the Eagle will head to Washington D.C. to take on the Commanders in an NFC East tilt Sunday.
