Ramos Roundup Part 64: Survival of the Fittest

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Barkley, Eagles Survive Panthers 22-16

Saquon Barkley rushed for 124 yards, breaking LeSean McCoy’s single-season record of 1,607 yards early in the fourth quarter, while the Eagles held on to survive the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Devonta Smith (4 catches, 37 yards) and Grant Calcaterra (3 catches, 16 yards) caught the birds’ two touchdowns in the win.

The Eagles typical second half surge never came in this contest, as the lowly Panthers give Philly all they could handle. They didn’t score on their opening drive for the 13th time this season, but ultimately did enough to erase an uneven day.

Philadelphia will host their cross-state rival in the Pittsburgh Steelers next week.

Sixers’ Big 3 Finally Plays, Defeats Bulls 108-100

Tyrese Maxey picked up 25 points, 11 rebounds and career-high 14 assists for his first career triple double in the Sixers matinée win on Sunday. Joel Embiid also returned to the lineup and poured in 31 points and crashed the glass for 12 rebounds.

Additionally, this is just the second time all year that the the Sixers had Maxey, Embiid and George together in a game. The Sixers last had the trio together against the Grizzles on November 20th.

Hopefully, with it comes good things for the Sixers.

Philly is now 7-15 on the year after a horrid start, winning four of their last five games. Next up is the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday.

Phillies Rumors: Bohm, Suarez, Castellanos on the Block?

According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, the Phillies are dangling 3B Alec Bohm, LHP Ranger Suárez and OF Nick Castellanos as trade bait this winter. None of this is surprising, except for perhaps the inclusion of Suárez. In order to take another step toward a World Series, it’s become clear that the Phils will need to remake their roster after this year’s playoff debacle. There’s likely multiple avenues they can look to via trade or free agency.

We’ll keep an eye on this moving forward, as I’m sure it won’t be the last time these players’ names will float around in the rumor mill.
