Welp Philly, it happened. The Phold of 24 is complete. The Eagles stumbled to the finish line, losing six of their last seven games, culminating in a pitiful display on the road in Tampa Bay Monday night. So it begs the question, where do we go from here? Let’s take a deeper look:
The Coaches Should be First to Go
After just three seasons, the rose is off the bloom. There is no justifiable reason that Nick Sirianni or his coordinators should be returning next season. There is no justifiable reason that a team that started the year 10-1 should finish the season 11-6. That makes the birds just the third team since the NFL merger to begin a season that well and not win a playoff game, according to Eagles Nation.
For a majority of the year, the playcalling was bland and uncreative on both sides of the ball. I’m sure it contributed to the players frustrations that we saw consistently on display on the sidelines throughout the season. It’s probably fair to say that, at this point, Nick Bosa was right. The 49ers did in fact have the blueprint to beat the Eagles. San Fran trampled Philly in that week 13 showdown. The Eagles never looked the same after that, and it’s up to this coaching staff to figure out a way to get the train back on the tracks. Instead, it flew off the rails into oblivion.
When will Jeffery Lurie pull the trigger or will he at all? Remember, the Eagles are just a year removed from a Super Bowl appearance. Many of the players on that team are still here. If Sirianni were fired, that would leave Lurie having to hire a new coach for the fourth time in 11 years. But, being non-competitive for the better part of a month should bring on a significant change.
Before any decisions can be made on this roster, the coaching has to get figured out first. And it shouldn’t be a particularly hard issue to sift through at this point. This is the type of collapse that sticks with a franchise for a long time.
