Thanks to Laughton and Tippett, Flyers Dominate Dallas 5-1

Goaltender Sam Ersson made 15 saves, as eight different Flyers stuffed the stat-sheet in Philly’s fifth straight win. Let’s wrap:

Tippett Dazzles Again in Two-Goal Night; Is a New Star Born?

Owen Tippett notched his 17th and 18th goals of the season Thursday, once again showcasing his impressive skill-set as he did the other night in St. Louis. Tippett’s plus snap-shot release and his speed were on display tonight in a big way.

In the Flyers post-game, John Tortorella had high praise for the 24-year-old, noting that he could be “special.” Tippett would have to find a more consistency in his overall game to achieve that, but if he can, he’s got a fantastic toolbox of offensive abilities that are pretty refined for a player his age. He may never develop that elite level hockey sense, but his physical tools are impressive enough to still yield multiple 30 goal campaigns and perhaps, even the odd 40 goal season.

Morgan Frost Picks Up Two Assists

Speaking of players heating up lately, Morgan Frost is finally starting to become a regular on the stat-sheet now for the Flyers. As we know, Frost possesses a blend of impressive pucks skills and playmaking acumen, but has found himself, at times, on the outs with the coaching staff dude to a perceived lack defensive-zone polish.

Despite this, Frost has remained a professional and has preformed well on the whole when called upon. Moreover, the Flyers could use Frost’s skill-set in their lineup. The club already has a handful of players in their lineup nightly that think ‘shoot first’ but few that have the vision and creativity to distribute the puck to those players in high-danger areas on the ice. Frost has an innate ability to make difficult passes look routine and for that reason, he should be a lineup staple.

Did You Know?

According to NHL stats, Scott Laughton became the third Flyers player this season to score a penalty-shot goal, joining Travis Konecny and Sean Couturier. No other team has taken, let alone, scored as many this season.

On Deck

The Flyers look to extend their winning streak to six games on Saturday, when they host the Colorado Avalanche for a 1:00 p.m. matinee.
