The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.
Phillies claim 1st Place, take 2-out-of-3 from Mets
Jesús Luzardo struck out seven, while Edmundo Sosa went 3-for-4 with a three run home run in the Phillies series clinching victory over the New York Mets. Obviously, the Phillies and Mets have been duking it out for NL East supremacy for most of the season so this was an important series.
The Phils are now on top of the the Division by themselves. Next on the docket for Philadelphia is a three game series with the Houston Astros. That series begins on Tuesday.
Report: Thomas Müller offered to Union
According to Sky Sports in Germany, the Union were approached to acquire longtime FC Bayern forward Thomas Müller. However, due to the expensive natural of the transfer fees, Philadelphia sporting director Ernest Tanner turned down the opportunity. Müller is now 35 years-old, but is a legendary figure in German football. He could easily help a contending team get over the hump, despite his age.
Yet, we know the Union do not spend money, especially what they may see as exorbitant.

Report: Shabanov to sign with Flyers on July 1st
A couple of weeks ago, a report came out of Russia that Traktor Chelyabinsk’s Maxim Shabanov was heading to the Flyers. Now, Hockey News Hub, one of the more connected pages on KHL player movement to North America, is reporting that on July 1st, the 24-year-old forward will sign with the Flyers.
Later on Sunday, Quartexx Hockey Management team announces that Shabanov will be resuming his professional career in the NHL after signing on with the agency.
For a team in the Flyers position, signing a skilled player like Shabanov is worth the dart throw. It likely cost the club nothing to acquire him and should it not work out here, the team could simply let the player go at seasons end.
Ace Bailey Backs out of Workout with Sixers
With the NBA Draft looming this coming Wednesday, many NBA teams STILL do not have clarity on Rutgers star and consensus No. 3 prospect Ace Bailey’s plans. According to Jonathan Givony and Shams Charania of ESPN, Bailey canceled a visit to the Sixers last week. In fact, Bailey has declined invitations from multiple teams that could potentially draft him.
It leads one to wonder what exactly Bailey’s camp is looking for in terms of fit. Now, this type of thing will not necessarily deter teams from drafting him, but it is fair to question whether or not this charade is worth costing himself a top three draft spot and potentially millions of dollars. It doesn’t seem wise from his representation to encourage it either.
Nevertheless, this should be fascinating to watch play out on draft night.
