Leagues Cup Semi-Final Stage is Set Between Union and Inter Miami
In one of the more highly anticipated matches in recent memory, the Union are set to host Leo Messi and Inter Miami on Tuesday night in the League Cup Semi-Finals. Messi, 36, remains an absolute legend in fútbol communities and his presence helped the match sell out Subaru Park within minutes of tickets going on sale. Only standing room is available. You can catch the game on MLS League Pass on Apple TV.
Lorenzen Tosses No-No, Phils Drop 2-of-3 with Twins
Trade deadline acquisition Michael Lorenzen rang in his home debut with the Phillies this week with a no-hitter against the Nationals earlier this week. According to Todd Zolecki, it was the first no-hit bid tossed by a Phillies pitcher at Citizens Bank Park since 2010, when Roy Halladay did so.
Speaking of no hitting, these same Phillies were only able to muster up 1 run in two games in their weekend series with the Twins. Especially on Sunday, the umpires were atrocious, to be blunt, but that wasn’t the reason the Phillies dropped this series. The Fightins have played well recently so we’ll chalk these to just a bump in the road here. They’ll hit the road for a two-game set in Toronto with the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Flyers Complete Trade with Hurricanes; Acquire Prospect Massimo Rizzo
The Flyers picked up the rights to Massimo Rizzo and a 5th round pick in the 2025 draft from Hurricane in exchange for David Kase earlier in the week. Rizzo, a former 7th-round pick and current standout at University of Denver is a talented young player, albeit a little on the lighter side at 175 pounds. The 22-year-old centermen is currently unsigned, but he does still have some college eligibility left. You can read more about Rizzo here.
Eagles drop preseason opener to Ravens 20-19
Philly rested many of their key contributors in their preseason opener in Baltimore, but there still were a couple of standout performances for the Eagles second and third teamers in the loss. Rashaad Penny rushed 34 yards on nine carries, while Tyrie Cleveland picked up 68 yards on five catches. Defensive back Sidney Brown led the way for the defense with nine tackles. There was also this nightmare-inducing sequence from Jalen Carter that you can see below. Imagine being a QB seeing that bear of a man coming at you? No thanks.
Report: James Harden to Return to Sixers after Failed Trade(s)
ESPN’s Adrain Wojnarowski reported on Saturday that the Sixers have opted to shut down trade discussions regarding maligned guard James Harden. Harden, who opted back into his original deal this summer with the expectation that he would be traded, can’t be happy with how things have transpired. It’ll make for an interesting training camp, one where a new coach in Nick Nurse is coming in looking to implement a new system. You just have to hope that Harden is committed; because he can make situations very difficult when doesn’t get what he wants.
