Eagles Lose Becton to Free Agency
The Eagles post Super Bowl, off-season makeover continued this weekend, as news broke late Friday that right guard Mekhi Becton has signed with the Chargers in free agency. Becton, 25, inked a lucrative deal worth $20 million, according to NFL Network. Additionally, Philly will receive a fifth-round compensatory pick in the 2026 draft for their trouble.
Becton now joins Milton Williams (Patriots), Josh Sweat (Cardinals), Darius Slay (Steelers), Isaiah Rodgers (Vikings), Oren Burks (Bengals) and Kenny Gainwell (Steelers) as the latest Eagles to find new homes this off-season.
A cold harsh reality of the business side of sports, as it is never fun to say goodbye to players that played significant roles on a championship team. Nevertheless, the Eagles also announced that they signed RB AJ Dillion, CB Adoree Jackson and TE Harrison Bryant this week to fill in some of the depth.
I’ll always be under the impression that there is no such thing as a bad one year deal so we’ll view Dillion, Jackson and Bryant as low-risk, potentially high reward type of players.
Report: Sixers to be Investigated by NBA
Would a Sixers season really be complete without the NBA investigating them? According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the league is investigating Philly for potentially violating the Player Participation Policy. Of course, all three of Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Paul George have missed large chunks of the year due to a litany of injuries. The Sixers won’t be the only team that would get a once over for players missing time, as the Oklahoma City Thunder have also drawn the ire of the league as well.
If the NBA finds the Sixers guilty, the club could be subjected to fines from the league, adding insult to injury in the most literal sense possible in the midst of a brutal season of basketball for Philly.
Kepler, Marsh pick up injuries in Spring Training Games
Kepler ran into the short left-field wall in the first inning, while Marsh slipped on the warning track in left-center field in the same inning on Sunday. Both injuries are not considered serious, but still worth noting. Both players are to expected to have roles with the club this season so we’ll monitor their conditions as more news becomes available.
