Ramos Roundup Part 71: Beignets and Big Plays

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Eagles Dominate Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX 40-22

The Eagles are Super Bowl Champions again! What more can we say? It was truly the most dominant victory in franchise history.

The Eagles jumped out to a 24-point in the first half, thanks to six sacks and three turnovers by the vaunted Philly defense. On the other side of the football, Saquon Barkley’s historic season continued. Barkley set an NFL record in the big game, passing Terrell Davis’ mark for most yards from scrimmage in a season (including the postseason). He ended up finishing the game with 97 total yards (57 rushing and 40 receiving) on 31 touches.

Then, of course, there was the Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts. The 26-year-old threw for 221 yards, rushed for 72 and accounted for 3 total touchdowns in the win. Moreover, Hurts’ rushing total breaks the benchmark he set at Super Bowl LVII two years ago.

According to Pro Football Focus, Hurts now has 525 passing yards, 142 rushing yards and seven touchdowns across two Super Bowl appearances. He’s made for moments like this.

The Eagles have clearly reached an upper echelon of winning franchises in recent years. From Jeffery Lurie’s passion to Howie Rosman’s terrific cap gymnastics, a new standard of success and winning has emerged in Philadelphia.

Lillard, Bucks Top Sixers 135-127

Damian Lillard scored a season-high 43 points to lead the Bucks past the Sixers Sunday afternoon. Tyrese Maxey led Philly with 39 points in the loss, while Joel Embiid added 27 points with 12 rebounds and six assists. Guerschon Yabusele added 18 points, while Paul George contributed 12 points, six assists and three steals.

Maxey’s impressive scoring season has been a lone bright spot for the Sixers this year. The Philly guard is now tied with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the most 30-point games since January 1st.

Union Fall to FC Cincinnati in Preseason Tune-Up 4-1

The Union got back on the pitch in a preseason friendly on Friday in Clearwater, Florida. The boys in blue lost the friendly, but did get one tally from starting defender Jakob Glesnes on a corner kick from Kai Wagner.

The Union will host this same Cincinnati squad on March 1st at Subaru Park in their home opener.
