Ramos Roundup Part 57: Getting to the Starting Line

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Eagles Bully Giants 28-3

After another scoreless first quarter, the Eagles picked up the pace and dominated their division rival Giants on Sunday. The game represented Saquon Barkley’s return to New York was the focus of the afternoon for the Giant faithful and he didn’t disappoint. Barkley ripped long scampers runs of 55, 41 and 38 yards on the day. The Bronx native finished the day with a gaudy 17 carries for 176 yards and a score.

As a whole, the Eagles finished with 339 total yards of offense and improved to 4-2 on the season.

Injuries Pile up as Sixers Season Opener Looms

In recent years, the Sixers have waited to bombard us late in the season with injuries, but this year they’ve gotten a head start. Firstly, Paul George left his second match of the preseason due to an ugly hyper-extended knee. Then, Philly would be dealt another problematic blow Friday when Tyrese Maxey left the contest with Orlando early after injuring his thumb. Rookie guard Jared McCain suffered what was deemed to be a pulmonary contusion after a scary fall trying to rebound a ball against the Nets.

Add to the fact that star Joel Embiid hasn’t yet seen the floor, and it may be a slow start for Philly out of the gate.

We’ll see what happens Wednesday, when they open their season with the Bucks on Wednesday.

Canucks Shutout Flyers in Home Opener 3-0

After an arduous season opening road trip, the Flyers returned home this weekend but it wasn’t their best effort. The orange and black traveled over three time zones before they returned home and that could’ve affected the listless effort on Saturday.

Be sure to keep it locked on Phiredup throughout the season this year, as we’ll have plenty of hockey content on the site this season following the Flyers.
