Ramos Roundup Part 52: Bem Vindo Ao Brasil

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Football is Back!

Ladies and gentlemen, football is back. This Friday, the Eagles begin their 2024-2025 campaign, but it won’t be without some complexities. Firstly, the players don’t seem particularly fond of the idea of being there, like Eagles’ Devonta Smith. Secondly, there is the matter of the uniforms; the Eagles’ uniform combo of white jerseys paired with black pants, white socks and black helmets. The colors also the colors of Corinthians Paulista, the home team of the stadium where the game will be held, hence the reason they’ll wear the odd color combo. Lastly, according to Athlon Sports, over 30 nearby cities are battling the wildfires. Could that affect the game at all?

I guess we will see. Nevertheless, it’s exciting to have fall sports on the way as the sweltering heat (hopefully) starts to wind down.

Baribo, Uhre Propel Union to 2-0 Win

Union traveled to Red Bull Arena to face the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night, winning 2-0. In the first half, forward Mikael Uhre opened the scoring in the fourth minute to put the Union in the lead. Ten minutes later, Tai Baribo stayed out and scored his seventh goal of the season. Andre Blake, on the other hand, made four saves to keep a clean sheet and secure three points on the road.

It was needed for the boys in blue, as they make a push towards the post-season. The Union travel to Chase Stadium to play Inter Miami CF on Saturday, September 14 in their next match.

Castellanos, Phillies Put Exclamation Point on Series Against the Braves

The Phillies won three-of-four games against their rivals from Atlanta when Nick Castellanos hit a game-winning single in extra innings. The Phightins’ bullpen pitched five scoreless innings in relief of Aaron Nola in the win as well. Moreover, it was an important series win for Philly in the standings.

Atlanta leads the Mets by one game for the last National League wild card and gives the Phils some breathing room a top the NL East. Of course, it also puts some pressure on the Braves in the playoffs as well, since they have dealt with a myriad of injuries this year. The entire four game series was a high pressure, playoff-like atmosphere.

Which was fun, considering the Phillies came out as victors.
