The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.
Phillies Drop Series with Marlins in Extras
The red hot Phillies came back down to earth on Sunday in their loss to the Marlins in extra innings. Miami’s Emmanuel Rivera came up big in the 10th frame to walk the game off. For the Phillies, it was an odd night out. Ace Zach Wheeler uncharacteristically got touched up for six runs in the ballgame and was yanked after just fourth innings.
Despite the loss, the Phillies have lost for only the third time in their past 16 contests. They’ve played as well as any team in baseball for a bit now.
They’ll take on their bitter rival Mets beginning on Monday night.
Report: Sixers Likely to Trade 2024 First Rounder
According to Sam Vecenie, there is an expectation league wide that the Sixers will be parting with their first round pick in this years draft. This doesn’t come as a major surprise considering how aggressive GM Daryl Morey is expected to be this off-season.
Over on the latest episode of Drunk on the Court, myself and Don Conaway discussed potential options for the Sixers in free agency. You can listen to that show here.
IIHF Slap Sanctions on Flyers Netminder
The International Ice Hockey Federation came down hard recently on Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov. According to a press release, Fedotov and the Russian hockey federation apparently violated IIHF transfer agreements and had Fedotov play in the KHL while under active contract with the Flyers.
Fedotov has now been barred for three years from playing in all IIHF Competitions, which would include the next Olympic Games. Frank Seravalli has the full scoop over at Daily Faceoff.
Seriously though, hasn’t this guy been through enough?
Union Look to Snap Home Skid on Wednesday
We’ll continue our Philadelphia Union coverage on the site this week, when the U take on NYFC on Wednesday. Philly has had an up and down campaign so far and have dropped three consecutive matches at Subaru Park. I’ll, as always, be there in the press box covering the action for the site.
