The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.
Eagles Add Needed LB Depth
After bringing star running back Saquon Barkley, Devante Parker, Kenny Pickett and C.J. Gardner Johnson, the Eagles continued a busy free agency period by signing linebackers Devin White and Oren Burks to one year-deals this past week, according to Dianna Russini.
White, who was a former fifth overall pick in 2019, is one of those low risk, potential high reward additions. White had a fantastic 2020 with the Buccaneers, but hasn’t consistently played at that level since. Burks, on the other hand, will likely serve as the top backup at LB throughout the season. Burks was previously with the 49ers.
Sixers Share Embiid Update; Plus Bloody Maxey!
On Sunday, Sixers superstar Joel Embiid returned to practice. However, according to Ky Carlin, that does not mean that a return to the lineup is imminent. The Sixers are 11-22 without Embiid this year and have missed his presence on the interior and his dynamic offensive game.
The Sixers did pick a much needed win over the Hornets on Saturday night though, thanks to Tyrese Maxey, Kelly Oubre and Buddy Hield. Maxey not only posted another 30 point performance, but would also nail his 500th 3-pointer of his career.
This all with a bloody nose after catching a nasty elbow to the face from Brandon Miller.
Talk about Philly tough.
Union Battle Austin F.C. to 2-2 Draw
It’s been the same old for the Union lately, as they once again played to a draw in Austin this past weekend. Daniel Gazdag and Mikael Uhre scored for Philadelphia. Th Union are still looking for their first win of the season. They’ll return to action on March 23rd.
