Ramos Roundup Part 23: For Dramatic Effect

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Eagles Stumble to Finish-line; Will Play Tampa Bay in Wild-Card

Well, at least they made history today, right? Seriously, this Eagles team has been complete free-fall mode for about a month and some change. This game versus the 5-11 Giants should’ve been a layup for this team. The defense looked at times inept, whereas the offense suffered injuries to two of their best playmakers in A.J. Brown and Jalen Hurts. It was a nightmare of an afternoon for the Eagles.

With the loss, the Eagles are now the 5th seed in the playoffs and will face the Buccaneers in the Wild-Card round. According to Zach Berman, the game is set for Monday Night, 8:00 p.m., start time . I’m sure we’ll all be there. Will the Eagles?

Sixers Drop Back to Back decisions to Knicks, Jazz

After getting pummeled by the Knicks on Saturday, the shorthanded Sixers drop Sunday night’s matchup with the Jazz as well. Philly was without Embiid who appeared to hurt his knee against the Knicks, Tobias Harris, and De ‘Anthony Melton so it wasn’t a huge shock here. Nevertheless, Tyrese Maxey played well in the loss, as the young guard picked up 25 points and nine assists.

The Sixers are 23-12 and are ranked third in the Eastern Conference.

Flyers Distinguish Flames on Ed Snider Celebration Day

The Flyers celebrated the life and legacy of Ed Snider this weekend, and the club picked up a much needed win. Travis Konecny potted the game-winner in the third period, while Carter Hart turned away 22 saves. Moreover, Morgan Frost returned to the lineup and picked up a goal and an assist as well.

It felt like an old-school Flyers game in this one; basically, a hard-nosed, physical game that Philly ended up winning. The Flyers remain in third place in the Metropolitan division standings, but it’ll likely be nip and tuck for the rest of the season.

Philly’s record is 20-13-6.

Harriel, McGlynn Called Up to USMNT

Congratulations go out to Union homegrown players’ Jack McGlynn and Nathan Harriel, as both players earned an invite to the United States Men’s National Team training camp. McGlynn, 20, made a career-high 27 appearances (career-high 15 starts) for the Union in 2023, while Harriel, 22, made 25 appearances (18 starts) last season.
