Ramos Roundup Part 19: No-Call, No-Show

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Union Fall to FC Cincinnati 1-0 Amid Controversial No-Call

Cincinnati’s Yerson Mosquera scored the lone goal of the contest at the 93rd minute, but no one is talking about that in Philadelphia. Instead, it’s Cincinnati defender Ian Murphy drifting offside, and VAR’s missing of the infraction upon reviewing it. The Union had assumed that the play would be overturned and so did Head Coach Jim Curtain.

But you know what they say about assuming.

You can see the play for yourself here.

Sixers Outlast Alexander, Holmgren in Win Over Thunder 127-123

Embiid and Maxey were the usual suspects in the Sixers’ latest win. This time, Embiid stuffed the stat sheet with 35 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists, 1 steal, and 4 blocks. Maxey, on the other hand, collected 28 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block.

The tandem continues to be an absolute pleasure to watch night in and night out. The Sixers are now 11-5 this year.

Flyers Win 1-0 on Long Island; Sean Walker’s Future

Rookie Tyson Forester put the finishing touches on a complete effort by the Flyers this weekend with a game-winning shootout goal. Samuel Ersson earned his second career shutout in the win as well, outdueling a rock-solid Ilya Sorokin in goal for the Islanders.

The win concluded a tough, three-games-in-five night stretch for Philadelphia. The Flyers are now 11-9-1 on the young season.

According to Anthony Di Marco of the Forth Period, the Flyers are in the midst of “exploring all avenues” in regards to defensemen Sean Walker and that includes potentially re-signing him. Walker, 29, is an unrestricted free agent this coming summer, but has been a real bright spot for the Flyers defense core.

It’s an interesting conundrum to be in for the Flyers. Could Walker re-sign and be a quality veteran for a rebuilding Flyers club? Or could they potentially flip the player at the trade for a significant haul?

Hurts, Eagles Continue to Roll in Thrilling OT Win Over Bills

Stop me if you’ve heard this before; but the Eagles have won. AGAIN. Jalen Hurts scored five total touchdowns in the win, a new career high, including the overtime-winner, which was a designed Quarterback keeper. Before we got there, however, the Eagles tied the game with a 59-yard field goal from Jake Elliott to force overtime.

An incredible effort by Elliott really when you consider the elements he had to battle to punt that one through.

De’Andre Swift added 80 yards on the ground, while Devonta Smith added seven catches for 106 yards and a touchdown.

The Birds are now a gaudy 10-1 and continue to find ways to win.
