Ramos Roundup Part 17: Thinking of Kelly Oubre Jr.

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Maxey Dominant in Sixers Win Over Pacers; Prayers for Kelly Oubre Jr.

Tyrese Maxey scored a career-high 50 points, while Joel Embiid added 37 in the Sixers 137-126 win over the on Sunday night. Maxey was 20-for-32 from the field and had 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks, doing it all for Philly in a star-making performance.

However, it wasn’t so much about the win. In news bigger than basketball, Philadelphia announced Sunday that Oubre suffered a fractured rib after being struck by a car Saturday night and will be re-evaluated in one week, according to Kyle Neubeck. Oubre, 27, suffered broken ribs and other scraps in the accident. The player has been a key addition to the 8-1 Sixers’ start to the season, but his health is paramount at this time.

We, like the rest of the NBA, are thankful the accident wasn’t worse for Oubre and wishing well in his recovery.

Rumors Abound as Phillies Enter Pivotal Off-Season

To trade or not to trade? Trade rumors are abundant this time of year, but with it, come many conflicting reports. Earlier this week, news broke that the Phillies were “open” to trading OF Nick Castellanos. This report was later refuted by ESPN’s Buster Olney, but lends credence to the line of thinking that the Phils are looking to get aggressive this winter. The club is already looking to address their pitching with Aaron Nola potentially looking to greener pastures. We’ll continue to monitor this throughout the off-season.

Flyers End California Road-Trip on High Note with Win in LA

After posting a six goal performance in Anaheim on Friday night, seven different players stuffed the stat sheet in Los Angeles against the Kings on Saturday. Morgan Frost (2 goals), Owen Tippett (goal and an assist) and former King Sean Walker (two assists) led the way with mulit-point nights.

For Frost, who has been a frequent healthy scratch and guest on the trade rumor mill, an effort like this was needed. Per NHL stats, Morgan Frost recorded the fourth multi-goal game of his NHL career. He had three multi-goal games last season.

The Flyers are now 7-7-1 on the season.

Union Advance in MLS Playoffs

Chris Donovan and Jack McGlynn teamed up for the lone Union goal to help Philly advanced out of their Round One Best-of-3 series in two games. Supporters’ Shield winners and No. 1 seed FC Cincinnati now await the boys in blue in the Semifinal round on November 25th or 26th.
