The Ramos roundup is a weekly sports column highlighting all the news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.
Sixers Beat Bucks, Will Host Magic in Play-in
Tyrese Maxey dropped 21 points in a 126-106 win over Milwaukee to set up a play-in matchup with the Orlando Magic. Philadelphia, of course, will be without Joel Embiid in that contest, as the big fella is still recovering from his sudden Appendicitis surgery.
The game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Philadelphia.
Flyers Recall Defensemen David Jiricek
On Sunday, the Flyers announced that they have recalled defensemen David Jiricek from their Leigh Valley affiliate. If you recall, Jiricek was the player the Flyers received in the Bobby Brink trade a couple of months ago and since being acquired, has really made a name for himself with the Phantoms. In 13 games in the AHL, Jiricek registered two goals and 11 assists for 13 points.
He may see some game action as soon as Monday, which has turned out to be quite a big matchup for the orange and black. With a win over the Carolina Hurricanes Monday night, the Flyers could clinch a playoff spot.
Eagles Trade for Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks
On Friday, the eagles continued to bolster their wide receiver room this off-season with the addition of Dontayvion Wicks.
Wicks, 24, complied 108 career receptions, 1,328 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in his time with Green Bay. He’ll now join a wideout corps that’s added Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore and now Dontayvion Wicks this spring. One has to wonder what that all means for the AJ Brown rumors and innuendo and if they are still willing to trade him. It certainly appears as if the Eagles are preparing for life without him, but we’ll have to wait and see as the the off-season rolls along.
Phillies Fall to 7-8 with Lost to Diamondbacks
With a chance to take two of three in the series, a crucial eight inning blunder cost the Phillies in a 4-3 loss on Sunday. With runners on first and third with no outs, Bryson Stott struck out. Then, Arizona RHP Ryan Thompson got Adolis Garcia to pop out to second base. The Diamondbacks would then doubled up Brandon Marsh at first base on the same play after Marsh made an egregious base running gaffe. Ultimately, that would cost the Phils the ballgame.
The Phillies will continue their homestand on Monday, when the Chicago Cubs come to town.
Union Win First Match of Season in Montreal
At long last, a win for the boys in blue.
The Union finally securing a victory on this past Saturday, with a win against CF Montréal. In the second half, defender Japhet Sery Larsen scored in the 55th minute for the Union, marking his first career MLS goal. Then, Midfielder Jesús Bueno scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute to secure three points for Philadelphia.
The Union are set to return to action on Saturday, April 18th, to face D.C. United at Subaru Park. The match is set to begin 7:30 p.m. and will broadcast on Apple TV.
