Ramos Roundup Part 117: Reimagined

The Ramos roundup is a weekly sports column highlighting all the news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Eagles Re-sign Goedert, Shore up Secondary with Woolen

On Sunday, news came down that the Eagles agreed to terms on re-signing TE Dallas Goedert to a one-year deal worth $7-million dollars. This will be Goedert’s ninth season in Philadelphia and with him locked into a contract, new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion has a plethora of weapons to work with in the up-coming season.

Additionally, on Tuesday, the birds agreed to terms with free agent CB Riq Woolen. That deal is also a one-year pact, but is worth up to $15 million dollars with $12 million guaranteed. Woolen, 26, is a big add on defense for Philadelphia, who joins the Eagles from Seattle. While there, Woolen registered 12 interceptions and 53 pass breakups. He does, however, need to cut down on the amount of penalties he takes.

In other teams news this week, the Eagles also re-worked OL Landon Dickerson’s contract and signed depth corner Jonathan Jones. Punter Braden Mann also re-signed as well.

Harper Singles As Team USA Advances to WBC Finals

In a highly dramatic game between two baseball powerhouses, Team USA edged the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic semifinals to advance to the finals on Sunday. Phillies’ Bryce Harper went 1-for-4 with a single in the contest, while Kyle Schwarber went 1-for-2 in the win.

The Americans will play either Venezuela or Italy on Tuesday in the WBC final.

Grimes, Sixers Defeat Trail Blazers 109-103

After hanging on to defeat a lowly Nets team on Saturday, the Sixers bounced back nicely with another win on Sunday against Portland. Quentin Grimes led the way offensively with 31 points, while Justin Edwards added 21 points of his own. VJ Edgecombe also contributed in a variety ways as well, scoring 18 points, three assists and a career-high 12 rebounds. Moreover, the Sixers defense

With back to back wins this weekend, the Sixers now sit at 37-31 and are half game up on the Atlanta Hawks for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference standings.

Blue Jackets Edge Flyers 2-1 in Shootout

Despite Dan Vladar’s 30 save performance, the Flyers couldn’t collect a vital second point against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. Rookie Alex Bump picked up his second career goal in the game, but the Flyers real issue in this contest (and really, all season) was the powerplay.

Philly entered the game last in the NHL on the power play at 15.5 percent and went 0-for-4 with five shots on goal with the man-advantage in this game. In fact, the Flyers wasted a four-minute power play in the loss as well.

The Flyers slim playoff hopes this season took a major blow with this loss, as the Blue Jackets are one of the teams the Flyers are currently chasing. Nevertheless, Philly is six points out of the final wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.

Union Still Searching for First Win in 2026

The disastrous beginning to the Union’s 2026 campaign continued Saturday, with a 3-1 loss in Atlanta. Emmanuel Latte Lath opened the scoring for Atlanta in the 28th minute before Tomás Jacob added another in the 47th minute. Finally, Alexey Miranchuk added the insurance marker for Atlanta in the 68th minute. Forward Agustín Anello was the lone goal scorer for Philadelphia in the loss.

It’s been a bizarre beginning to the season this year for the Union. They are 0-4 in MLS play, but have had some positive moments in the Concacaf Champions Cup matches. Speaking of the Champions Cup, the Union will travel to Mexico City this Wednesday to face Liga MX side Club América in the second-leg of the Round of 16 Concacaf Champions Cup. They’ll return to action in MLS play on March 21st, when they host the Chicago Fire at Subaru Park.
