Jordan Davis Inks Massive Three-Year Contract Extension
Jordan Davis and the Eagles reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension this weekend that will keep the nose tackle in Philadelphia through the 2029 season. The new pact is worth a massive $78 million dollars with $65 million guaranteed and will also make Davis the highest-paid NT in NFL history, as the big fella will bring $26 million dollars per-year home.
This past season was a banner year for him, recording 72 total tackles (34 solo), 4.5 sacks, nine tackles for loss, six quarterback hits, and six passes defended across 17 games, according to stats muse. He played a career-high 686 defensive snap last season too, becoming an disruptor in the pass rush and run defense.
It’s hard to say he’s not deserving, but one has to wonder how the Eagles will navigate the cap, as they have several big deals on their books now. We’ll see what else Howie Roseman and the birds have up their sleeve the rest of the off-season.
Schwarber, Harper Contribute in USA’s 9-1 WBC Win
While the Phillies continue to trudge through spring training games in Clearwater, Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber are off contributing to team USA at the World Baseball Classic. On Saturday, after trailing for 4 ½ innings, Team USA took its first lead of the game when Schwarber belted a two-run homer into the night. Harper, on the other hand, picked up a hit on four at-bats in the win as well.
Other Phillies participating in the pre-season tournament are LHP Cristopher Sánchez (Dominican Republic), LHP Jesús Luzardo (Venezuela — reserve), RHP Aaron Nola (Italy), OF Dante Nori (Italy), RHP Taijuan Walker (Mexico), C Garrett Stubbs (Israel), RHP Max Lazar (Israel), INF Edmundo Sosa (Panama), RHP Gabriel Barbosa (Brazil), RHP Jaydenn Estanista (Netherlands) and RHP Mitch Neunborn (Australia).
Tyrese Maxey Picks up Finger Injury
The Sixers dropped a 125-116 decision to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, but that wasn’t the most concerning news to come of the contest. In the game’s waning moments, Maxey was up the floor on a full court press when he attempted to steal an inbound pass. When the Sixer guard reached to knock the ball away, he ran into Adem Bona before crumbling to the floor. Maxey will now join Joel Embiid, Paul George and potentially VJ Edgecombe (listed as questionable) for Monday’s game in Cleveland.
Even for just two games, this is major blow to the Sixers lineup, as the team is close to teetering out of playoff contention. Philadelphia is currently the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference Standings.
Flyers Deal Brink, Deslauriers at Deadline; beat Penguins
The NHL Trade Deadline came and went on Friday, with the Flyers modestly busy on the trade market front. Firstly, Philly opted to trade winger Bobby Brink to his hometown Minnesota Wild in exchange for prospect defensemen David Jiricek.
Jiricek, 22, is a former 6th overall pick of the 2022 draft and still has quite a bit of potential. He is a right shot rearguard known for good offensive instincts and a hard point shot. However, his skating does need work and he’s also prone to gaffes in the defensive zone from time to time. Nevertheless, he scored in his debut with the Flyers’ minor affiliate this weekend so we’ll see if he makes an appearance with the big club over the Flyers’ final 20 games.
In other club news, the orange and black also dealt Nick Deslauriers to the Carolina Hurricanes for a 2027 conditional 7th round pick and claimed forward Luke Glendening off waivers.
On Saturday, the Flyers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in a shootout. The goals came from Owen Tippett, Denver Barkey and the recently recalled Alex Bump. Trevor Zegras won the game in the shootout, while goaltender Dan Vladar 20 saves in the win. The orange and black return to action on Monday, when they play host to the New York Rangers.
Union Shutout for Third Straight Game
On Saturday night, the Union fell 1-0 to the San Jose Earthquakes at Subaru Park. Ousseni Bouda scored the lone goal in the 59th minute. The Union outshot San Jose, 12-7, but couldn’t find the equalizer. It’s been a rocky start to the 2026 campaign for Philadelphia, who are not only 0-3 in MLS play, but also haven’t found the back of the cage yet this season either. The boys in blue are off to their worst start since 2012.
The Union will get back on the pitch against Liga MX side Club América in the Round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions Cup at Subaru Park on Tuesday, March 10. Kick-off is set 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on FS2.
