Ramos Roundup Part 110: Wintry Mix

The Ramos roundup is a weekly sports column highlighting all the news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Anunoby, Knicks Slip by Sixers 112-109

Despite a 38-point day from Joel Embiid, the Sixers dropped a decision to the New York Knicks on Saturday. Philadelphia stumbled out of the second half gate and trailed by as many as 17 points. Then, the Sixers found the late push and made a 12-0 run to cut New York’s lead to 98-93, thanks to efforts from Embiid and All-Star starter Tyrese Maxey. However, that wouldn’t be enough as OG Anunoby, former Sixer Landry Shamet and Jalen Brunson hit key shots late in the game.

New York dominated the offensive glass, out-rebounding the Sixers 19-6. Perhaps in an effort to remedy that, the team announced Sunday they are bringing back former 2nd-round selection Charles Bassey on a 10-day contract. Bassey most recently was with the Golden State Warriors’ G League team and is averaging 18.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.4 assists in 27.8 minutes per contest for them. We’ll see if he gets some time with the Sixers and offer some interior presence in the process.

Tippett Scores Hat-Trick, Flyers Topple Avalanche

On Friday, the Flyers ended a tough, three-game roadtrip with a 7-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche. Owen Tippett scored a hat-trick and also registered an assist for a four-point night. Matvei Michkov also had himself a productive outing, adding two goals of his own and an assist.

Overall, the orange and black picked up five of a possible six points on their trip through Vegas, Utah and Colorado. They return home on Monday to take on the Islanders. It’ll be an important matchup for the Flyers as they trail by just two points.

Union Acquire Defender Kaiden Moore On Loan

The Union announced Thursday that the club has acquired defender Kaiden Moore on an intraleague loan through 2026 with a permanent trade option from Atlanta United FC. Moore, 18, Moore is joining the Union as an off-roster Homegrown player, continuing his development with Philadelphia Union II in MLS NEXT Pro. Atlanta is expected to retain a portion of the player’s contract as well.

Moore made 23 appearances (17 starts), scoring one goal while posting an 89.5 passing accuracy percentage and winning 66.7 percent of his aerial duels with Atlanta 2 across two seasons. He will continue his development with Union II this season.

Eagles Search for New Offensive Coordinator Continues

The Eagles continue their pursuit of a new offensive coordinator as of this writing. Recently, the birds have been tied to former Giants head coach Brian Daboll, which of course, is not a surprise. Not only has Daboll found success as an OC most recently in Buffalo, but also spent time as an OC for Alabama under Nick Saban. While there, he had a brief stint coaching quarterbacks’ Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa so there is some familiarity here.

All in all, this doesn’t necessarily make him the odds on favorite for the Eagles job. It is more likely that Howie Roseman and company are casting a wide net and the most well known candidate may not be the best one. We’ll see where Daboll lands and what that means for the Eagles, if it isn’t in Philadelphia.
