Ramos Roundup Part 11: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Phillies Clinch Playoff Berth; will Host Marlins in Wildcard Series

With the help of a walk-off hit from Johan Rojas, the Phillies are officially headed back to the post-season. On Tuesday, the Phils will play host to the Marlins, time for first pitch will be 8:00 p.m. For more coverage on the up-coming games, check out Bell Smashers and Drunk on the Phils.

Sixers Ink Kelly Oubre Jr. to One Year Deal

Despite a long and arduous summer, the Sixers landed some much-needed depth in athletic wing Kelly Oubre Jr. earlier this week. Oubre, 27, averaged 32.3 minutes per game over 48 games for the Charlotte Hornets last season. He posted a career-high 20.3 points per game in Buzz City.

I’ve always been under the impression that there is no such thing as a bad one-year deal. It’s a position of desperate need for the Sixers right now so they could’ve done worse here. Oubre should provide some quality play off the Philadelphia bench. For more on Oubre and the Sixers, check out the latest Drunk on the Court.

Union, Crew Tie 1-1 in Columbus

Nathan Harriel’s header helped the Union pick up a standing point in their 1-1 tie with the Crew on Saturday night. The Union will take on Atlanta and Nashville this week.

Flyers Continue to Trim Roster with Pre-Season in Full Swing

On Saturday, the Flyers announced they had loaned prospects Elliot Desnoyers and Helge Grans to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Philly also chose to release forwards Jordy Bellerive and Jacob Gaucher from their professional try-out contracts. With that, both players will report to the Phantoms as well.

According to NHL.com, the Flyers roster now sits at 40 players; 23 forwards, 13 defensemen and four goaltenders. The club returns to preseason action on Monday against the Bruins and Thursday when they host the New York Islanders.

Eagles Stay Perfect with Overtime Win over Commanders

Jake Elliott kicked a 54-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Eagles to a 34-31 win over the Commanders on Sunday for their second consecutive 4-0 start. Things got dicey late in this one once Jalen Hurts hit A.J. Brown for a 28-yard touchdown with 1:28 left in regulation. After the score, Brown was flagged for taunting, which then breathed life into a game-tying Commanders drive. The mistake started Washington on the Eagles’ 36 before they tied it when Sam Howell hit Jahan Dotson as time expired.

In addition to Eliott’s game winning boot, he also connected from 41, 47 and 36 yards on the day. Hurts finished up with 319 yards passing and two touchdowns. AJ Brown hauled in nine catches for 175 yards on the day as well.

The Eagles head to Los Angeles to take on the Rams in week 5.
