Ramos Roundup Part 104: Blacked Out

The Ramos roundup is a weekly sports column highlighting all the news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Bears Bury Eagles 24-15 on Black Friday

The Eagles dropped their second straight game on Black Friday, this time to the Bears by a 24-15 mark. Chicago dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage in the win, as the Eagles were thrashed on the ground by the Bears rushing attack. In typical fashion this season, the Eagles offense was uninspiring and garbled. Philly went just four-of-12 on third down attempts, while quarterback Jalen Hurts was often inaccurate with the football in key spots when the Eagles needed a completion. Despite this, A.J. Brown caught 10 of his 12 targets for 132 yards and two touchdowns in the losing effort.

Next up is the LA Chargers in the city of angels on Monday Night Football.

Sixers Fall to Hawks 142-134 in Double OT

Despite Tyrese Maxey’s 44 points, the Sixers fell to the shorthanded Atlanta Hawks on Sunday night. It also marked the first time that Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey all took the court together in the 2025-2026 campaign. The real change in the contest was when Philadelphia allowed a 13-0 Atlanta run that put them up seven late in the game.

The Sixers will return to action on Wednesday, when host the Washington Wizards at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Flyers Extend Win Streak to Three with Impressive Roadtrip

Owen Tippett registered two goals and one assist, while Dan Vladar made 29 saves in the Flyers 5-3 win over New Jersey to end a week long roadtrip on a high note. The first tally from Tippett was the winger’s 100th career goal and and his 200th career point. The orange and black also defeated the Islanders and the Florida Panthers on the trip as well.

Above all, the Flyers are just two points out of first place in the Metropolitan Division with a game in hand, as of this writing. The Flyers are one of the youngest clubs in the league this year so while they are very much rebuilding, it’s encouraging to see them string together wins consistently.

Union Exercise Option on Makhanya, New Deal for Vassilev

On Wednesday, the Union got an early jump on the offseason, announcing that the club had exercised the contract option for defender Olwethu Makhanya. The new pact keeps the South African international in Philadelphia through 2026 and 2027. Tai Baribo and Nathan Harriel also had their their contract options picked up as well.

Additionally, the Union announced that Indiana Vassilev is signing a new contract with Philadelphia, guaranteeing that the midfielder will be under contract through 2028 with an option for 2029. Vassilev recorded a career-high five goals with the Union this season. The club is currently in on-going negotiations with Ale Bedoya, Ben Bender, George Marks, and Mikael Uhre, as all four players are out of contract at present time.

Uhre, in particular, will be an interesting one. He’s spent the last four seasons in Philly, but seemed noncommittal at best about the idea of returning when he addressed the media after the Union’s season ended. We’ll see where it goes as the offseason moves along.
