Ramos Roundup Part 103: King of the Jungle

The Ramos roundup is a weekly sports column highlighting all the news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Eagles Gut Out 16-9 Win Against Lions

The Eagles defense tamed a usually high powered Detroit Lions offense on Sunday night, as the birds gut out a 16-9 victory to improve to 8-2 this season. It was really the tale of two different units, as the Philly defense stepped up time and time again; the Eagles got four 4th-down stops and generally had Lions QB Jared Goff off-balance.

The offense, on the other hand, was a different story. For the second week in a row, the Eagles’ offense went dormant, unable to move the ball efficiently and hit chunk plays for big gains. AJ Brown paced the offense, with seven catches for 43 yards after voicing his displeasure with his involvement in the offense. Saqoun Barkley rushed for 83 yards on 26 carries in the win as well.

The last two weeks haven’t been pretty, but only the Eagles and Rams stand a top the NFC at 8-2 teams, with the birds holding the tiebreaker with a head-to-head win. The offense needs to sort itself out though if the Eagles are to stay in the number one seed in the conference.

Flyers Go 1-1 in Weekend Back-to-Back in St. Louis, Dallas

The Flyers had an eventful weekend beginning on Friday, when the orange and black took down the Blues 6-5 in a shootout. Owen Tippett registered four points (1g, 3a) in the win, while Trevor Zegras and Christian Dvorak each scored twice.

However, much like last season, the Flyers wouldn’t fare too well in the second leg of the back to back situation with a 5-1 drumming at the hands of the Dallas Stars. According to NBC Sports’ Jordan Hall, Philly is 1-12-2 in the second game of back-to-back sets and have been outscored 63-34 dating back to last season. Dvorak was the lone goal scorer for the Flyers in the loss against the Stars.

The Flyers will return to action on Thursday, when they host St. Louis at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Puckdrop is set for 7:00 p.m.

Phillies Trade Rumors: Teams Eyeing Phils for LHP Pitching

According to The Athletic’s Matt Gelb, the Phillies have been fielding calls from teams regarding Matt Strahm, José Alvarado and Tanner Banks’ availability. Of course, the Phillies are looking to shake things up themselves; the relief pitching market in free agency is light this winter so it makes sense clubs would rather talk trade instead.

Alvarado, who will make $9MM next season, is likely the player to garner the most attention. Nevertheless, Alvardo has a chance to step into a setup role now that they have Jhoan Duran as their closer, potentially creating a hard-throwing, late inning tandem for the Phillies. It is not likely that the Phils have an appetite to trade Alvarado, but both Straham and Banks could be a different story. One would expect that the Phillies will have a few trades lined up either way since the club ended the 2025 campaign with such a thud.
