Flyers Take Care of Blackhawks 3-1 in Bounceback Win

It wasn’t always pretty, but it didn’t have to be on Wednesday as the Flyers get back in the win column after their Stadium Series defeat. Let’s wrap:

Konecny Dazzles on Individual Effort

Travis Konecny added another beauty of a goal to his highlight reel on Wednesday night with this fantastic individual effort. On this play, Konecny extended his point streak to seven games (5-7—12 in 7 GP since February 6) and continues to help buoy the Flyers offense this season.

Tortorella Not Impressed

The Flyers weren’t always sharp in this game and John Tortorella wasn’t entirely happy about it in his post-game availability. Personally, I do tend to agree with Bill Meltzer that Tortorella may have been a tad hyper-critical of his club, especially in his assessment of the Farabee-Frost-Konecny line. Perhaps the coach is preparing his club for running another schedule gauntlet this month again that you can see below, but in any event, not all wins are two-way masterclasses either. Even for some of the leagues best, everyone has moments where they win ugly throughout an 82-game season.

Much like a pitcher in baseball that doesn’t have all of his pitches working in a game, but is still finding ways to get hitters out. It’s often the sign of a good team that they can find ways to win when they aren’t playing their best.

Did You Know?

According to NHL stats, Travis Sanheim opening goal was the Flyers 29th goal by a defensemen this season. That firmly entrenches Philadelphia in the NHL’s top 10 in goals by defensemen this year. Colorado leads all teams with 48 goals by defensemen.

On Deck

The Flyers will return to action on Saturday, when they play host to the division leading New York Rangers, 3:30 p.m. puckdrop.
