Flyers Shutout in Detroit as Losing Skid Hits Four

Former Flyers netminder Alex Lyon pitched a 30 save shutout, while Dylan Larkin stayed hot in Philly’s fourth straight loss. Let’s wrap:

Low Energy Affair

While Nick Deslauriers did his best, the Flyers lacked a spark in this game in a big way. Perhaps fatigue is starting to set in now, as we are in the dog days of the NHL season. However, Philly can’t afford to let their overall strong two-way play slip, even in light of some trying issues surrounding the team of late. The team is still comfortable in a playoff spot at the moment, but things can change in a hurry in a very tight Metropolitan divisional race.

Laughton Takes Three Penalties: Time for Message?

Scott Laughton may have finally played himself into the pressbox after his performance Thursday night. Laughton’s season has been a mix bag; although he has contributed to a strong penalty-kill, his consistency in other areas has been erratic. Like the situation with Cam Atkinson, it might be best for Laughton to sit a game or two to reset. As a well-liked player and teammate, that may be unpopular, but he has not played well for a good portion of the season to date.

Did You Know?

According to NHL stats, winger Travis Konecny has a team-leading 22 goals for Philadelphia this season. Nine have come from the Mid-Range zone per NHL EDGE, ranking him in the 97th percentile of all skaters in the NHL.

On Deck

The Flyers head home for one more game before their All-Star break on Saturday, when they face the Bruins, 12:30 p.m. puck drop.
