Flyers Out-Duel Coyotes 5-3, Win Fourth Straight

Don’t look now, but the Flyers are officially hot again, as they take down the visiting Arizona Coyotes on Monday night for their fourth straight win. Let’s wrap:

Morgan Frost Gets The Party Started With Penalty Shot Goal

When Morgan Frost, who was seemingly everywhere in this game, tried splitting two Arizona defenders to draw the above penalty shot, he showcased an aggression we haven’t always seen this year. Aggression, in that, the 24 year-old was attacking the ice with vigor Monday night. At times, Frost has been a polarizing player, but it’s often because he can tease in games like this where he’s looks like a real threat. Make no mistake, however, the ability is there and perhaps all he needed, was the chance to play nightly.

Konecny Continues to Pile up the Points

We’ve talked about Travis Konecny ad nauseum this season, but it hasn’t been without good reason. His goal and two assists helped propel the Flyers victory, but even when he’s not helping buoy the offense, he has still been engaged with his hallmark feistiness. Almost nightly, Konecny has been the Flyers leader this season.

Powerplay Still an Issue

The Flyers lowly powerplay struggled mightily in this one, going 0-for-7 on the man advantage in this game. If Philly had even a passable powerplay this season, they’d probably be competing for the division title this year. Rocky Thompson’s unit has tried a number of configurations, but it hasn’t yielded much success yet. This is still a subtle reminder that the Flyers still need an injection of skill, despite playing a very consistent brand of hockey at 5-on-5.

Did You Know?

According to NHL Stats, Morgan Frost’s penalty-shot goal marked the Flyers’ fourth of the season, which matched the most by a team in a single season in NHL history. They joined Dallas (2013-14), Carolina (2005-06), Minnesota (2003-04) and Vancouver (1997-98).

On Deck

The Flyers will hit the road Thursday when they head to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs. The game is set for a 7:00 puckdrop.
