Flyers Competitive in 3-2 loss to Hurricanes

It was a game effort for orange and black on Monday night, but Carolina’s Teuvo Teravainen scored the tie-breaking goal with 3:47 left in regulation. Here’s some significant notes that stood out about the Flyers going toe-to-toe with a legitimate contender.

The Fourth Line Finally Breaks Through

After giving an early goal just three minutes into the contest, the Flyers appeared to struggle with the Hurricanes aggressiveness in all three zones. There will quite a few turnovers at the Philly blueline in the early going, but that was somewhat cleanly up as the game wore along. However, the Flyers tallied twice in the later in the period to take the lead.

It was all about effort in this one for them.

Owen Tippett scored on a bouncing puck that ended up over Andersen’s glove for his second of the year with 4:51 remaining in the opening stanza. Then, Garnet Hathaway picked up his first goal of the season with a backhander that he tucked between Fedrick Andersen’s pads. Hathaway’s goal came after a fun shift from bruiser Nick Deslauirers that included a huge hit in the defensive end and a good pass in the offensive zone.

Morgan Frost Returns to Lineup

After a six game exile to the pressbox, much maligned centermen Morgan Frost retuned to the lineup and played well in the loss. Frost, 24, logged three shots on goal, drew a penalty in 17 minutes of total time on ice. He was flanked by Travis Konecny and Tyson Foerster in this game and fit in seamlessly and made brought some needed playmaking ability to the lineup.
