Fedotov, Flyers Tame Preds 2-1 for Third Straight Win

With 15 goals in their last three games, the Flyers are officially on a three game winning streak. Let’s wrap:

The Big 600

During the first period, the Flyers recognized Garnet Hathaway for playing in his 600th career game Monday night. Hathaway just returned to the lineup after missing the last 15 games due to a concussion he suffered in Pittsburgh. He looked no worse for wear in his return, playing with his signature aggressiveness.

Hathaway took 15 shifts, logged 10:52 of TOI, registering three hits with one shot on goal in the win.

Flyin’ Ryan

Ryan Poehling is certainly making good on his opportunity to play up in the lineup of late. The fourth line centreman now has 10 points in his last 10 games with seven of those being goals. He has also added three assists in that span as well.

“For me, it was weird,” Poehling said of his second period goal. “I was just coming off a backcheck and I was just trying to get to an open spot. TK made a great play.”

It was the excellent tic-tac-toe passing from Michkov and Konecny prior to Poehling getting to the far post that really made the play. Poehling is likely just on a hot streak at this time; he doesn’t really possess the kind of puck skills required to score like this regularly, but he has been a pleasant surprise late in the season.

“Since I’ve seen play here for our team, when gets one, they tend to follow,” Brad Shaw said. “Some guys are like that.”

Iso on Ivan

In arguably his best performance this season, Ivan Fedotov stopped 28 saves on 29 shots in the win. Fedotov has had an inconsistent season to date, but battled quite hard in this one. When playing well, the big Russian goalie is efficiently tracking pucks out high and has a penchant for making momentum saves when his team needs it. We haven’t seen that a lot this year, but it was a nice effort nonetheless.

They Said It

Konecny on Playing for Brad Shaw: “It’s a little different. I mean, he doesn’t really say too much to us, maybe a little comments. I don’t know if it’s just him, like, focusing on kind of his new spot there and and trying to figure out, line matches, whatever he’s trying to do, he’s not necessarily focused on everything else. So we’ll see as it goes on here, but it’s been good so far.”

Shaw on the Flyers Blocking Shots late in the Game: “Well, we’ve competed hard almost every game that I’ve been here so I’m not surprised. It’s been something that’s been part of this team for as long as I’ve been here so you kind of get the feed off of what was already embedded. With what Torts had done here, the shot-blocking was a big element of how he coaches and wants his team to play. And so it’s there’s a lot of carryover from from past past experience.”

Poehling on Playing with Michkov: “The Biggest thing is just you have to be ready. Sometimes you are like, ‘wow how did he make that play?’ It’s a ton of fun to watch and play with.”

Michkov on His Creativity in Creating Points: “The points are nice, but what’s important is the team is playing well.”

Fedotov on Getting the Win: “It felt pretty good after some not very good games for me. I feel good, hopefully everyone feels good right now.”

Did You Know?

According to NHL stats, Matvei Michkov recorded his 18th career multi-point game Monday night. He therefore ties Peter Zezel (84-85) for the sixth most by a Flyers rookie in a single season.

On Deck

The Flyers will head out on the road to Montreal to meet with the Canadiens this Saturday. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast locally on NBCSP.
