Ersson, Flyers Win Shootout Thriller Over Capitals 4-3

Owen Tippett tied the game late in the third period, while Sam Ersson made 27 saves in a thrilling Flyers victory Thursday night. Let’s wrap, shall we?

Bobby Brink Picks up Goals in regulation, shootout

Bobby Brink scored the deciding goal in the shootout, while also tallying up one in regulation to get Philadelphia the W. Aside from points, Brink played a solid game and it’s important for younger players like Brink to carry a victory in a rebuild. Ditto for guys Owen Tippett, Morgan Frost, and Joel Farabee. The 22-year-old Minnesota native now has 14 points in 24 games this season.

Playoffs?

We’ve talked last week about the Flyers deserving more respect. According to Moneypuck, Philly now has a 61.7% chance to make the post-season this year, which would’ve been unthinkable heading into this season. There is still plenty of season and much can change between now and April. However, it’s hard not to like this Flyers team; they will make mistakes, but compete hard. They skate, are tenacious and may even have a tad more talent than pundits thought.

It’s been a lot of fun to this point.

Did You Know?

The Flyers are a perfect 3-0 in shootouts this season. Backup goaltender Sam Ersson has started all three of those games, and has tied Joseph Woll for the League lead amongst goaltenders.

On Deck

The Flyers return to action on Saturday at Wells Fargo Center, when they play host to the Detroit Red Wings for a 7:00 pm puckdrop.
