The Phillies decided the off day was the day to finally remove the “interim” from Rob Thomson’s manager title and extended him for the next two seasons at least.
When Girardi was fired, the team was 22-29 and destined for another year of disappointment. Under Thomson, they went 65-46, finishing 87-75. Not only did they end the postseason drought, but they also won the wild card round. 65-46. To say he deserves this opportunity would be a severe understatement. This season has been a roller coaster, but I believe we found our guy. This team has shown him so much love and has rallied behind him from the beginning.
I don’t know what went on behind the scenes in that locker room, but not once did I hear Realmuto say “I love you more” to Girardi as he did with Thomson. There is a lot of excitement going on for the Phillies and it will be fun to watch.
Go Phils.
