Ramos Roundup Part 69: Next Flight to New Orleans

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Eagles Crush Commanders 55-23 in NFC Championship

Well, there’s one more to go. The Eagles are headed to Super Bowl LIV. Philly had the Commanders off-balance on both sides of the football with three forced fumbles in the win. This is the third time in the last eight years the Eagles hosted an NFC Championship, winning all three in blowout fashion.

Of course, Saqoun Barkley was in the middle of the rout, carrying the rock 15 times and averaging a healthy 7.9 yards per carry. Through the air, A.J. Brown made six catches for 96 yards, leading the team in receiving in the win as well.

Perhaps the biggest key in this run? The Eagles have forced 10 turnovers in these playoffs. On the other hand, Philly hasn’t turned it over once.

That’ll need that to continue against the Kansas City. The Chiefs are obviously looking for their third straight Super Bowl victory, ironically enough, much like the Patriots in 2018.

We all remember how that ended.

Sixers Pick Up Back to Back Wins

The Sixers went 2-0 this weekend with a 109-97 victory over the Bulls on Saturday and a big 132-129 win over the Eastern Conference leading Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. Even without Joel Embiid, Jared McCain, Caleb Martin and KJ Martin available this weekend, Tyrese Maxey, Paul George and Kelly Oubre Jr carried the scoring load.

Against Cleveland, all five starters reached double-digit scoring with Paul George leading the way. George dropped 30 points in the win, delivering what was perhaps his best performance as a Sixer this season.

In Chicago, Tyrese Maxey was outstanding, going for 31 points (12-for-23 FG), five rebounds, nine assists, two steals and one block in the win. Oubre added 20 points of his own, in addition to pulling down 12 boards against the Bulls after pulling down 13 in Friday’s game.

However, George did leave the game against the Bulls with a finger injury. He got an MRI on Sunday.

Flyers Fall to Islanders 3-1

The Flyers didn’t have as much luck as the Sixers in their weekend back to back, losing to the Islanders on Friday. Tyson Foerster scored the lone Flyers goal on Friday in the loss.

Philly is now 5-7-1 this year against their own division.

Union Finish Spain Portion of Training Camp

The Union training trip to Marbella, Spain ended on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to Danish Superliga side AGF. Quinn Sullivan scored on a header for the lone Philadelphia goal of the match. The U will head for the warm weather of Clearwater, Florida on February 2, 2025 for the training camp portion of their off-season.
