Ramos Roundup Part 53: Across the Bridge?

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Sixers Looking At Relocation?

According to ROINJ News, the Sixers have pondered the idea of relocating the franchise to New Jersey. Of course, this not exactly a new development, as Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Comcast Spector have not had the best relationship; and Sixers ownership has wanted it’s own arena for some time now. The Sixers have had interest in building an Arena in Philadelphia’s Fashion District, but hasn’t made great progress in getting that done either, as zoning issues have played a role.

Remember, the Sixers already have their practice facility in Camden and Owner Josh Harris already owns the New Jersey Devils so if the State were to make a significant play for the franchise, it could make for a lucrative deal for the Sixers.

We’ll keep an eye on new developments regarding this, but would Sixers fans mind heading across the bridge to catch games?

Barkley Leads Eagles in Brazil with 3 Touchdowns

Saquon Barkley complied 132 total yards and scored thrice in his Eagles debut, helping the Birds pounce the Packers 34-29 in Brazil. Wide Receiver AJ Brown tacked on four catches for 108 yards too, including a 67-yard big hitting touchdown that changed the complexion of the game early in the second half.

However, it was far from a perfect effort. The Eagles defense, who certainly played well enough to win and made plays when it mattered, did have a couple of lapses that ended up going for play gains. Somewhat to be expected, as the group irons out the kinks in learning a new Vic Fangio scheme.

On offense, quarterback Jalen Hurts threw an interception and had a poor snap exchange with Cam Jurgens early in the game. In what is usually a rarity in games, Philly actually lost the turnover battle 3-1 and came out on top.

Nevertheless, we won’t critique a win too much here, a win is a win. The Eagles will return to action on Monday, when they host the Atlanta Falcons at Lincoln Financial Field in week 2.

Phillies Split Series with Marlins

Recently recalled Seth Johnson made his major-league debut on Sunday for the Phillies and the start ended in a 10-1 loss. Despite having Ranger Suarez gut out a start and an offensive explosion backing a quality start from Zach Wheeler in this series, the bottom of the Phillies rotation continues to be an area of concern. With this problem area, it will be all the more important for the Phils to keep Wheeler, Aaron Nola and Christopher Sanchez healthy for the playoffs. An injury to any of them could cause major issues for the rotation in October.

The Phillies will now head home for a six-game run at the bank, with a three-game set against the Rays beginning Monday.

Flyers Set for Rookie Series this Coming Weekend

With football now in full swing, that means hockey is about to get underway as well.

The Flyers begin rookie camps this week, with games next Friday and Saturday vs the New York Rangers rookies in the Lehigh Valley. Chief among the storylines should be everyone’s first look at the club’s wunderkind Matevi Michkov.

The Flyers training camp will open the following week.
