Phillies Avoid Sweep in Pittsburgh
Garrett Stubbs and Alec Bohm each picked up two hits, while Nick Castellanos homered for the Phillies to avoid the sweep against the Pirates. Tyler Phillips took the mound and held the Pirates scoreless over six innings to win his second straight start.
According to John Foley of PHLY Sports, this 2024 version of the Phillies has the second most wins through 99 games played; only the 1976 team has had more in the same span.
Now that the All-Star festivities are behind them, the best team in baseball now has an opportunity to add even more talent at the MLB trade deadline on July 30th. However, the Phils may not be tracking some of the big name free agents. According to Bob Nightengale, it is not expected that the Phillies will be in on potential deadline targets Jazz Chisholm Jr, Brent Rooker or Tommy Pham. Still, it does appear that Philly look to add more help in the bullpen.
We shall wait and see.
Eagles to be Without Sydney Brown to Start Camp
According to Jimmy Kempski, Eagles’ safety Sydney Brown will begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Brown, 25, made 28 solo tackles, along with 21 receptions allowed and one interception in 2023. He was also a key special teamer for the birds last season as well.
Brown is not permitted to participate in practice until he’s officially activated. He will still count against the 90-player roster limit.
Of course, football is just around the corner. The Eagles host their open practice at the Linc on August 1st.
