Ramos Roundup Part 22: Happy New Year!

The Ramos roundup is a weekly Philadelphia Sports column highlighting all the pertinent news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.

Eagles Lose to Lowly Cardinals 35-31; Lose Devonta Smith to Injury

Kyler Murray tossed three touchdowns, as the Arizona Cardinals rallied from a 15-point deficit on Sunday to take the Eagles. Where to begin with this team? The execution has been awful, and the play-calling? That has been even worse. The Eagles have now lost for the fourth time this month. They could have won their division with wins against Arizona and the New York Giants next week.

The Cowboys can now win the division with a win next week at Washington. This team has been in total free-fall mode for a while right now.

Moreover, Devonta Smith was spotted post-game on crutches and in a walking boot.

Hard to believe, Harry.

Nurse Updates Embiid’s Injury Status

Before the Sixers tipped off against the Rockets on Friday, head coach Nick Nurse updated Joel Embiid injury status. Embiid, who missed the entire four-game road trip, suffered a sprained ankle on December 22nd. The hope is that the big man is back for the Sixers January 2nd matchup with Chicago.

Flyers Run Out of Steam in Calgary, have Road Point Streak Snapped in Loss

Despite a pair of late goals from Bobby Brink and Egor Zamula, the Flyers fell to the Flames 4-2 on New Years Eve. Rasmus Ristolainen also scored in the loss. It’s been clear as this road-trip has worn on, that the extensive travel and schedule has bogged the team down. This is the Flyers third game in four nights, but in addition to that, the overall process has dipped a bit as well.

The club wraps up their road-trip through the Pacific Northwest in Edmonton on Tuesday.

New Year Resolution

2023 was very rewarding for me both personally and professionally. I got engaged, bought a house and am a year into a job that feels like there is real growth potential for me. Of course, I’m very grateful for Phiredup as well. This platform has allowed me to create my own podcast (listen here, I know shameless plug) and practically given me carte blanche to contribute in any way I wanted to. The upmost thanks goes out to Mike, Dom, Don of Drunk on Broad and the whole Phiredup team.

2024 will be a good year for us, and I’ll continue to try and help make this site a go-to for all Philly sports fans.

That’s a promise.
