The Flyers returned from their holiday break and took down the NHL’s best home team in the league this season, thanks to goals from Zamula, Farabee, Walker and Hathaway. Let’s wrap:
The Power Kill
After a big hit on Joel Farabee from Noah Juulsen, Cam Aktinson would come to the aid of his teammate, but was assessed an extra penalty to put the Canucks on the powerplay. Additionally, this came a pivotal moment in the game, as the Flyers just had their lead cut to two after a couple of whiffs on the puck on the offensive zone. However, short-handed situations are where the Flyers thrive best in 2023-2024.
Garnet Hathaway scored Philly’s eighth shorthanded goal of the season after a great coast-to-coast effort from Ryan Poehling, which trails only the Flames for the most in the league. The Flyers rank with the 5th best penalty kill in the league this season, but they remain a threat to score too. It’s been fun to watch.
Early Exits for Ersson, Konecny
Although the game was enjoyable, the Flyers did get a scare in this one. Sam Ersson left the game early in the third period after looking to be in some discomfort. It would later be reported by the broadcast that Ersson dealt with hydration. Comparatively, Konecny dealt with some type of illness. Both players are expected to be fine long term.

According to NHL Stats, Tyson Foerster and Bobby Brink each picked up an assist in the second period to boost the Flyers totals by rookies to 31 points this season. The only teams with more points from rookies this season are Chicago (54), Columbus (47), Anaheim (41) and Minnesota (39).
