The Philadelphia Eagles are off to quite a hot start. If you were told 4 weeks ago that the Eagles started off 3-0, and Jalen Hurts was an MVP candidate, I would have called you absolutely crazy. Our schedule is easy this year, I get that. And the 3-0 start was actually quite reasonable all things considered. But Jalen Hurts is the first quarterback in NFL HISTORY with 900+ passing yards and 150+ rushing yards in the first three games. THAT is something not many of us would have expected.
Hurts has become an MVP candidate with his leadership in a fiery hot offense. And no, I’m not talking about arguably the best RUNNING offense, that was last year. And I’m not talking about the best offense when it’s just Hurts to AJ Brown, that was the first week of this year. I’m talking about Jalen Hurts, A.J Brown, Dallas Goedert, Devonta Smith, and everyone on that offense. Hurts is spreading out the ball so well each week due to how many viable people he has in his offense. Defenses cannot prepare for one specific threat, but yet would have to prepare for three or more threats each week. And he no longer has to rely on his rushing quite that much this year (though he is pretty dang good at that too). As much as people would still like to say that he should switch to running back, his passing has gone to a whole other level so far this year. Hurts is now he’s on pace to have over 5,100 passing yards this year. That right there, are MVP numbers.
The Eagles host the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday on October 2 at 1:00 PM. The Jaguars just came off a demolition of the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers have one of the best odds to make it to the Superbowl (despite Justin Herbert not yet taking a single playoff snap). Beating that Chargers team by that much was impressive. Doug Pederson is the Jags’ head coach, who hands down has the most balls of any head coach in the league. Trevor Lawrence is also growing as a player. This will be a tougher matchup than people would expect, but I’m excited to see how the Eagles respond, as they begin to make the case to be the best team in their division, their conference, and possibly one of the best in the whole league. And of course, looking to stay undefeated and have a 4-0 record for the first time since 2004.
Thank you for reading and Go Birds!
