The Ramos roundup is a weekly sports column highlighting all the news of the week featuring the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Union.
Maxey Makes Sixers History
On Thursday, Tyrese Maxey continued his banner season with the Sixers, breaking Allen Iverson’s 3-pointers made in Sixers franchise history. An impressive feat for any player, but especially for Maxey, who broke the record at just 25-years old. Of course, basketball has changed a lot since Iverson held the record and the three point shot is much more prominent. Nevertheless, Maxey deserves his flowers for the milestone.
In other Sixers news, the team dropped a 114-97 decision to the Boston Celtics Sunday evening. This marks the first of three games without Joel Embiid. The Sixers announced after defeating the Miami Heat on Thursday that Embiid is being dealing with an oblique strain.
Union Fall in MLS Home Opener 2-1
On Sunday, the Union took on New York City FC, falling to their rivals 2-1. In the first half, Hannes Wolf opened the scoring for New York in the 36th minute. Then in the 89th minute, Union midfielder Indiana Vassilev scored on a penalty kick to tie the match. Tayvon Gray scored the winning goal in the 99th minute for New York, dropping the Union to 0-2 in the young season.
Philadelphia will return to Subaru Park on Saturday, March 7 to the face San Jose Earthquake. The match is set for a 7:30 p.m. kick-off and will be broadcasted on Apple TV.
Flyers Add Boris Katchouk in Minor League Trade
With the NHL trade deadline a few days away, the Flyers made a minor league trade with the Minnesota Wild on Sunday. Forward Boris Katchouk heads to the Flyers for Defensemen Roman Schimdt, but he will report to the Phantoms. The 27-year-old Katchouk has appeared in 179 NHL games in his career. In that time, he has recorded 15 goals and 21 assists for 36 career points.
In other club news, the team recalled defensemen Adam Ginning from Lehigh Valley.
