Maxey Shines in Win Against Raptors, Fall to Pistons Sunday
Tyrese Maxey kept up his torrid scoring pace Saturday night, as the Sixers defeated the Raptors. Maxey delivered 31 points, while Philly also got a quality effort from Trenton Watford, who went for 20 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists. Joel Embiid added 29 points as well.
Don’t look now, but the 6-3 Sixers are taking advantage of a muddled Eastern Conference picture. Granted, it is still very early, but the team is playing a style that’s conducive to winning and is continuing to get healthy. Both Paul George and Dominick Barlow should be back soon, continuing to bolster the depth of the club as well.
However, on Sunday, despite Maxey again dropping 30 points, the Sixers fell to the Detroit Pistons.
Bradley Carnell Named Sigi Schmid MLS Coach of the Year
Major League Soccer announced Thursday that Union head coach Bradley Carnell has won the 2025 Sigi Schmid MLS Coach of the Year award this season.
Of course, Carnell took a Philadelphia club that finished 23rd in the league standings last season and flipped the script this season, leading Philly to a Supporters’ Shield title with 66 points in 2025.
In other club news, Philly will host NYCFC at Subaru Park on either November 23 for round 2 of the 2025 MLS Playoffs after the international break. The match is set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Eagles Set for MNF Showdown with Packers
The Eagles return to action out of their bye week on Monday, when they head to Green Bay. Surprisingly, the Eagles enter the contest as underdogs despite being the deeper of the two teams. The Packers will also be without star tight end Tucker Kraft for the rest of the season due to a torn ACL in week 9.
On the birds side, they’ll be without recently acquired Jaire Alexander. The veteran cornerback, who began his career with Green Bay, was picked up from the Ravens at the trade deadline. He’s missed the last six games with either injures or as a healthy scratch.
Former Flyer Captain Mel Bridgman Passes Away at 70
In sadder news, the Flyers released a statement on Saturday that longtime Flyer Mel Bridgman has passed away at the age of 70. Bridgman spent seven seasons in Philly, with stops in Calgary, New Jersey, Detroit and Vancouver. Additionally, Bridgman was hired as Ottawa’s general manager in 1991 and was with the franchise through the end of the Senators’ inaugural season.
From all of us at Phiredup, we are thinking of the entire Bridgman family during this trying time.
