For the 55th time this October, the Flyers will be kicking off another NHL campaign, as the club announced the release of their NHL schedule. Here are some key dates and some notables that Flyers fans surely should have circled on their calendars:
1) Thursday Oct. 13 vs. The New Jersey Devils
John Tortorella will make his debut as Flyers bench boss at home, as his Flyers will be kicking off their season at the Wells Fargo Center against their Metropolitan Division rival.
2) Tuesday Oct. 18 at The Tampa Bay Lightning
Philadelphia will get their first crack at the defending Eastern Conference Champion Lightning early this up-coming season. The game is the first leg of a back-to-back situation for the Flyers. The orange and black will play 15 back-to-back total this year.
3) Friday Nov. 25 vs. The Pittsburgh Penguins
After a day chock-full of Turkey, football and family, check out this black Friday rivalry match-up between the Flyers and Penguins. The battle of Pennsylvania entertains often, but this year, however, you certainly won’t want to miss this one. Philadelphia only plays the Pens three times.
4) Monday Dec. 5 vs. The Colorado Avalanche
In what should be a good barometer of how the Flyers stack up against the games’ elite this season, the defending Cup champion Avalanche are scheduled to be in town in Early December.
5) On the road again….
The Flyers longest road stretch of the season comes with five straight away games beginning with a back-to-back in Toronto on Dec. 22. Subsequently, following a five-day break, the club will embark on their annual California trip when they play at San Jose, then, the Los Angeles Kings on New Year’s Eve. Furthermore, they’ll see the Anaheim Ducks on Jan. 2. The orange and black will look to improve upon a dreadful 11-25-5 record on the road this up-coming season.
